Recently repaired church opened in Yeghvard
On Saturday, in Yeghvard village of Kapan district the opening ceremony of the recently repaired church took place, reports the correspondent of armregions.am in Syunik.
The church of the St. Virgin Mary, which had been constructed in 1700 and its adjacent territory was completely renovated by the French Charitable Organization "Erkir ev Mshakuit" ("Country and Culture"), under the leadership of Gegham Gevonyan and by the assistance of the villagers and the Armenian students from the Diaspora.
The Charitable Organization "Erkir ev Mshakuit", which had been engaged in the restoration of the cultural monuments of Armenia, year ago had gladly responded to the request of the head of Yeghvard community Spartak Zakaryan to save the church of 18th century from the complete destruction. The cross-stones that had been founded during the construction works had been carefully cleaned and mounted on the church territory. The territory was cleaned away from the garbage and stones; the stone fence had been constructed; the roof of the church was repaired and the altar was placed.
The Diaspora volunteers had carried out the significant work as well.
-We are very grateful to our friends from Diaspora: for their work, the joy and fervour that made the villagers life happier, shares the head of the community Spartak Zakaryan. -During the entire period of their visit, the village was filled with new energy, it seemed like the village became younger. But I want to notice the most important, is that our friends from Diaspora had taught us to be patriotic.
Initially it was scheduled to sanctify the church on the same day. However, the ceremony was postponed, as the supreme church officials who have the right to carry out the ceremony, did not appear.
Nevertheless, the holiday was celebrated. The art collectives of the Municipal Culture House and the Regional Drama Theater named after A. Shirvanzade had performed with the concert and theater programs. The pomegranates had been planted around the church. Kapan spiritual pastor Galust Vardapet Darbinyan said a prayer and blessed all the participants.
After the ceremony the guests and Yeghvard residents had been invited to continue the celebrations at tables.
